JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
DESCRIPTION:
Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc. (SALA) is hiring a Managing Attorney to work in its Tucson Office supervising Domestic Relations/Immigration Units. SALA provides services to the low-income community of nine counties and eleven Indian Reservations. The Managing Attorney will be providing legal services to victims of domestic violence, applicants for legal immigration under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). This also require supervising the staff in the Domestic Relations/Immigration Units including law students/volunteers; oversee daily operations of the units; participate in grant reporting; develop relationships between the agency and other resources in the community. They may be asked to perform any other legal related duties as requested or assigned by the Executive Director or his/her designee.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. Applicants must have at least five years of legal experience and be a member of the Arizona Bar or pass the next exam; applicants licensed two years in another jurisdiction may practice by special rule. Criminal background check required.
2. Applicants must exhibit a high degree of sensitivity to the problems of the low-income community and should be able to work with low-income and community groups. They should have initiative, good communication skills and the ability to work well in a multi-cultural setting.
3. Applicants should be knowledgeable in the area of general civil practice on behalf of the low-income community and specifically in the areas of family law and/or immigration experience.
COMPENSATION:
Salary $50,050 - $86,962 DOE; additional $10,000 Management Premium. Up to five percent additional compensation to individuals fluent in Spanish. Payment of bar exam and admission fees for those not yet admitted. Student loan repayment assistance. Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility.
